TOWER Family: Revisiting the Doc-tor!
TOWER takes you back to 1901, when the Griggs family established themselves as a worker’s staple at the heart of Wollaston, Northamptonshire - the birthplace of what would become Dr. Martens. Airwair was developed by Dr. Klaus Maertens and Dr. Herbert Funk in 1945 to support Maertens’ broken foot. Upon the discovery of such comfort, DM’s founding Griggs family acquired an exclusive license and made some minor changes in England before stitching it beneath their own boots. We were given a two-toned grooved sole-edge, yellow stitching and an iconic outsole impression below modified heel-cups for premium levels of comfort - all of which can still be found build into Dr. Martens boots to this day. From their first eight-holed 1460, Dr. Martens’ air-sole went on to redefine all aspects of worker’s footwear, crafted in such a way that fashionable sub-genres began calling on the brand’s aesthetic, complimentary of their own signature style. We’ve seen DMs on the feet of everyone from mods to models - but, which pair is perfect for you? To make your decision even easier, our TOWER family has pulled together every pair into one, bite-sized page here.
